Today I will provide an understanding of the narrative text, its parts, and examples.
👉 Definition
Narrative text is a type of text in English to tell a story that has a chronological sequence of events that are interconnected. The purpose of this text is to entertain the reader about a story or story.
👵 Characteristic
- Using action verbs in the form of past tenses.
- Using a specific noun as a pronoun.
- Using the Adjective to form Noun Phrase.
- Use the Conjunction to sort events.
⚡ Structure of Narrative Text
The structure of the narrative text focuses on a series of stages that are proposed to build a text on its own. In general, there are four stages in Narrative text, namely:
- Orientation
Orientation or so-called introduction, contains about who, when, where a story is set.
- Complication
Complication tells the beginning of the problem that causes the peak of the problem or what is commonly called the climax. This section usually involves the main character of the story.
- Resolution
This section is the end of the story or in the form of a solution to the problem that occurred. Problems can be solved can be for better or even worse which will make the story end happily or vice versa.
Sometimes, there are resolutions which are other problems to solve. It is deliberately created by the author to increase and maintain interest and tension for the readers. Usually, this type of resolution is found in the mysteries and horror genres.
- Re-orientation
The part is the closing of a story which is optional. Re-orientation can contain moral lessons, suggestions or teachings from the author.

Bawang Putih dan Bawang Merah
Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful girl with her father, stepmother, and stepbrother. One day, his father died. Her stepmother and stepbrother treated her very badly whereas they used to love her before her father died. He has to do all the homework.
In the morning, Bawang Putih went to the river to wash a lot of clothes. Then he saw that the goldfish needed help. Her mouth caught on the hook. Bawang Putih felt sorry for and helped the poor goldfish.
"Thank you for your kindness," said the goldfish.
Bawang Putih was very surprised that the goldfish could talk. But the goldfish helped him wash the clothes and they became friends.
Unfortunately, his half-brother Bawang Merah knew about goldfish. He caught goldfish and gave them to his mother. After that, they cooked it and ate it. When Bawang Putih found out, she took the bone and buried it. She felt very sad that she couldn't take care of her best friend.
A few days later, a beautiful tree grew on the grave. Surprisingly, a Prince came to see her. he needed the tree to heal his father. When he asked who owned the tree, Bawang Merah said that it was his. H owever, when he wanted to pull up the tree, he couldn't. Even everyone can't do it, but Bawang Putih can. Bawang Putih pulled the tree easily and gave it to the Prince.
The prince married Bawang Putih. Bawang Putih forgives her stepmother and stepbrother and they live happily ever after.
